Every human is an eternal being, and for the believer death is not the end of life but the transition from our Earthly vessel to our Heavenly one. As St. Paul taught, we can be confident that when we leave this body on Earth, we will be present with Jesus (2 Cor 5:8). Furthermore Jesus comforts us with the truth that although our body will die, we have eternal life in Him through His death and resurrection (John 11:25-26). Finally, even death itself will have no hold over us when Jesus resurrects the dead in Christ at the resurrection of the righteous (John 6:40). Indeed, although we mourn the loss of friends and loved ones, we can find comfort in knowing that Jesus welcomes all who love Him into eternal dwelling with our Father in Heaven. Although we hurt, those who have passed no longer suffer or weep but are filled with joy everlasting and eagerly await our joining them in God’s Kingdom (Rev 21:4).
